Man dies following motrocycle accident

Williams, 22, killed in crash

By EMILIE NELSON, Messenger staff writer
POSTED: April 19, 2009

Editor's Note: The Messenger was provided inaccurate information from The Associated Press about this Lohrville accident. Adam Williams was not eluding a sheriff's deputy when the fatal accident occurred, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

LOHRVILLE - A Rockwell City man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pickup east of Lohrville in Calhoun County Friday evening

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Adam John Williams, 22, of Rockwell City, was eastbound on Iowa Highway 175 on a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle, and was clocked by a Calhoun County deputy to be traveling at a high rate of speed about a half mile east of Lohrville.

When the deputy initiated a traffic stop at 9:38 p.m., Williams turned and began traveling west on Highway 175 striking the rear of a westbound 1993 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Daniel M. Wallace, 54, of Fonda.

Williams was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Wallace was uninjured. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

Williams was a 2005 graduate of Rockwell City-Lytton High School. Those who knew him remember him for his sense of humor and as someone who was into cars and motorcycles said Chantice Manley, a friend of Williams.

"He was into things of the extreme nature, really liked motorcycles," said Manley, whose sister was a classmate of Williams. "He was always hilarious."

I had the pleasure of meeting Adam when he roomed with my son at Iowa Lakes Community College. A mother couldn't have asked for a better roommate for her child. Adam was always polite, and quite a comedian. If it weren't for Adam I don't think my son would have stayed in college with everything he had going on back home. They were so much alike.I remember the first time I visited their dorm room and saw the beauty school head the boys had decorated. What fun they had with that! Those are the moments that will be missed. My greatest sympathies go out to Adams family and friends. He was a great young man and will never be forgotten!!

Adam was not running from the cops!!! He was a good person and all that know him will say that he would have done the right thing and stopped if that was the case. It was a tragic ending to a great person. He was always happy and could make anyone smile when he was around! He will be missed by family and MANY FRIENDS!!

It's about time a news reporter admitted to reporting a false report. I have heard from people that were at the scene the FACTS

I personally blame the Messenger for the negative comments that were here. Yes they got their info from the AP, but it's still the messenger's job to check out the facts BEFORE printing a story. This has happened before. You cannot be in such a hurry to get something to print that you cut corners and don't check facts. A little time would have saved this family from hearing the derogatory remarks that were posted. I believe the messenger owes this family an apology, and since the mistake was put out in the public, so should the apology be.

this article sounds like the police clocked him then went after him & thats when he colided with a truck so it still sounds like he ran from police, but i guess it doesn't matter how it happened it's an awful thing that happened! my thoughts are with the family!

I have known Adam since he was a kid and have wathed him grow up. He only lived about two miles from me and the older he got the more I got to know him. He had a heart full of gold, was full of laughter, and ***** and came from a great family. Keep your hateful opinions to yourself and show respect for grieving family and friends. It is called tact and it is well appreciated.

So many of my favorite childhood memories include Adam and his brother. My heart goes out to his family and all of his friends, he will truly be missed by many!!

I hope the people that didn't even know Adam and are posting negative things about him and that he deserved what he got NEVER have this happen to them! To loose my son has been the most devastating thing that I have ever had to face and to see his name being slandered and him put down cuts deep. I love my son dearly and this hurts to see all this negative stuff being said about him. Please have a little compassion and respect for those of us left behind. He left behind a brother who will miss him dearly. A sister who will need him. Grandparents who long to see his smile and parents who wake up everyday with out him. After all this is MY SON you all are talking about. I only hope that others have compassion as this CAN and WILL happen to others! Please respect my son for who is and not for the mistakes that he has made! He is not God and neither are you! Only God can judge him! Thanks for all the support and love from all Adam's friends! We love you all! Adam was very well loved!

Adam Williams is MY SON! To all you people who loved Adam I can only thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for him including defending him here on the internet! First of all let me set a few things straight! My son was NOT eluding police. Second of all it was NOT a high speed chase! Third of all the police did NOT initiate a traffic stop! Yes, my son was traveling at a high rate of speed. The police officer only clocked him. He did not chase him! If you knew my son, you would know a fun loving guy who would do anything for family and friends! He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest! Adam was an artist who loved to draw. He loved auto body and has been doing that since he was sevens years old. He liked tattoos and motorcycles. Adam could make anything with his hands. He saved his best friends life and took no credit for it. This is my son. He was NOT some wild out of control kid. He had a heart of gold and was very loyal to family and friends.

Although I did not personally know Adam, I am praying for him. We ALL make mistakes and this young man paid for his with his life. I am sure we have ALL done things we have regrets over. REST IN PEACE ADAM.

It was still a tacky statement Rukiddingme. And did not have any sensitivity. Put yourself in the youngman's family's shoes and try to view that statement from their perspective. And Captainhiway. Yes it was his fault. No one said it wasn't. But a little compassion goes a long way when planning a funeral. Now is NOT the right time to play the blame game.

"He was into things of the extreme nature, really liked motorcycles," said Manley, whose sister was a classmate of Williams. "He was always hilarious." Straight from the Messenger itself. All I said was, " Who is laughing now?" Not the parents or the grandparents. Not the law officials involved I'm sure.

There is freedom of speech, but just like you can't yell "fire" in a theater and you cannot go to a funeral to harass the family, common sense says to keep all negative comments to yourself. Did this young man make a mistake running? Yes, but which one of us can say we never make mistakes? This young man made the wrong decision, and paid for it with his life. And now a family is left behind to pick up the pieces. But one bad decision does not define a man's life. I did not know this young man, but it is obvious from all these posts he sounded like a compassionate person. So cut him some slack. We ALL make mistakes. Luckily most of us don't have to pay for it with our lives. My prayers and thoughts go to this young man and his family. He will be missed.

For those of you who didn't know Adam and only have negative things to say about the situation, please put yourself in his friend's and family's shoes. Would you want to read the comments you've posted about someone you loved and cared for? Please have some respect.

This is such a tragedy! I didn't know Adam on a personal level but what I did know is that he always knew how to make people laugh and have a good time. My thoughts and prayers go to his friends and family! Rest in peace Adam. YOu will be greatly missed!

MzNorml has a good point in we should rethink how things are done in police chases...People should think "STOP" when the police attempt to pull you over. If I was caught speeding I would rather take a ticket than risk loosing my life. Another unfortunate and completely preventable death if only the young man would have made the choice to stop instead of run.

hendrickson, you are a pathetic one. Has anyone counted lately the number of men we have lost in that last 3 yrs. due to police chases?? We should rethink how things are done. God Bless Adam's family and friends.

Anyone who has ever been around Adam knows he could make friends and put a smile on your face without much effort. He was never the type to want to harm people. We shouldn't judge by his actions. He was a good friend of mine and i feel for everyone affected by this tragedy. RIP Adam...miss ya buddy

thendrickson has a point. This young man's actions put all others on the road in danger. The man whose pickup truck was hit may suffer emotionally even though he bears no responsibility. So thendrickson's point is well-taken.

I dont understand what you got out of stating that comment on this page where friends and family of his can see this...leave your comments to yourself...no one deserves to leave this world no matter how good or bad they are! This man was loved by lots of friends and family...My prayers are with his friends and families, and the RC community! God Bless!
