RUBY C. KOPPEN

HARCOURT - Ruby C. Koppen, 94, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center, Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28 at Faith Lutheran Church, Harcourt with Pastor Rod Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie.

Ruby was born in Burnside Township on Aug. 8, 1914 to Peter and Hulda Munson. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. She graduated from Burnside Consolidated school in 1934. After graduation she helped doctors in the rural area deliver babies.

Ruby was united in marriage to Kenneth Koppen May 30, 1937 at the First Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. They farmed in the Lundgren and Burnside area for 21 years. In 1958 they moved to the Harcourt area. They joined Faith Lutheran in Harcourt in 1961. For over 22 years she worked at Trinity Lutheran Hospital as a ward clerk in the pediatric department. She taught Sunday school, held offices in the women's society and the church council. She was a board member for Harcourt Lost Grove Library, Mid Iowa Housing Authority for Webster County, and a member of Harcourt-Lanyon Senior Citizens. She volunteered for Home Corp to help abused families for 15 years. She also played in a kitchen band for many years. She enjoyed helping needy families and volunteered each Thanksgiving at the Salvation Army to serve the holiday meal. She was a quilter and made many blankets to send to the missions. In 1991, she was chosen Outstanding Senior Citizen for Webster County and Harcourt Community Service. She loved many scriptures which were said every day, her favorite was "The Lord has made this day - Rejoice and be glad." Psalm 23.

Those who will cherish her memory include daughters Janet (Jerry) Gorrell, Le Mars; Charlene (Jerry) Erickson, Little Falls, Minn.; Karen Koppen, Fort Dodge, and special friend (Paul) Rockwell City. Grandchildren Jamie (Bill) MacNeill, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Joni (Fritz) Miller, Sioux City; Julie (BJ) Schuller, Sibley; Jackie (Larry) Plantz, Le Mars; Marc (Kris) Erickson, Little Falls, Minn.; Marty (Jill) Erickson, Redmond, Ore.; Mitchell (Ramona) Erickson, Arden Hills, Minn.; great-grandchildren William Miller; Alex Miller, Sioux City; Ben Van Ornum; Casey MacNeill, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Emily Plantz, Erica Plantz, Le Mars; Brittany Schuller; Catherine Schuller, Sibley; Mick Erickson, Gloucester, Va.; Bradley Erickson, Little Falls, Minn. Jordan and Jared Erickson, Little Falls, Minn.; Bianca Erickson, Australia. Great-great grandchildren Shaydon Erickson, Gloucester, Va.; and Owen Erickson, Little Falls, Minn.

Welcoming her in heaven are her parents, Peter and Hulda Munson; husband, Kenneth Koppen; half-brother, Clifford Johnson; brother, Franklin Munson.
