BLAIRSBURG - An accident killed two people and injured seven outside of Blairsburg Sunday night.

Paula Johnson, 53, and Minnie Johnson, 93, both of Belmond, died after the van they were riding in was hit two miles north of Blairsburg on Highway 69 at approximately 11:57 a.m. Sunday.

The van they were riding in was southbound on U.S. Highway 69 when it lost control and swerved into the path of a sport utility vehicle heading north. The SUV struck the passenger side of the van.

Dallas Johnson, 53, of Belmond, was driving the van and was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Seth Johnson, 17, of Belmond, another passenger in the vehicle, was transported to the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City by Williams Fire and Rescue.

A representative from Hamilton Hospital said that Seth Johnson was not listed as a patient at the facility on Monday.

The SUV was driven by Ashley Ammerman, 25, of Clarion. She was transported to Mary Greeley by Jewell Fire and Rescue.

Bryan Butz, 25, Taylan Elwood, 6, Laden Elwood, 3, and Briar Ammerman, 19 months, all of Clarion, were transported to Mary Greeley by Jewell Fire and Rescue.

Calls to Mary Greeley about the conditions of Butz, Taylan Elwood and Laden Elwood were not returned by press time.

Briar Ammerman was listed in critical condition at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines Monday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol report, weather conditions caused the accident but the investigation is still ongoing.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Blairsburg Fire Department, Williams Fire Department, Ellsworth Fire and Rescue and Jewell Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
