PEORIA, ARIZ - James C. Charlson, 89 of Peoria, Ariz. died Nov. 26th, 2008 and was laid to rest Dec. 10th, 2008 at National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz. Jim was born April 28, 1919 in Goldfield, to J. Elmer & Beatrice Charlson. The family moved to Dows in 1925 where they owned and operated the Charlson Clothing Store. He graduated from Dows High School in 1936 and earned his Associate Degree from Waldorf College, Forest City. During WWII, he served as Sgt. in the Army Air Corp. in North Africa and Italy. In 1947 he completed his Masters Degree from the University of Iowa. He taught school briefly in Boxholm before moving to Ariz. where he taught Economics for 35 years for the Phoenix Public Schools. Jim later met and married his wife Inez. He was an active golfer. Jim is survived by his wife, Inez of Peoria, Ariz., and 3 step-sons. His brother Roger E. Charlson of Fort Dodge and nephews & nieces Steven Charlson of Des Moines, Anne Hatoum of W. Des Moines, Carolyn Ferry of Eagle Grove, and Susan Charlson of Eagle Grove. Rick Charlson of Ariz. and Jessica Herman of Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Charlson.
