POMEROY - Raymond F. Fitzgerald, 82, of Pomeroy, died on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Trinity Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pomeroy, with the Rev. Richard Ries and the Rev. Lawrence McCarty officiating. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Pomeroy. Michael LoterbourPowers Funeral Home in Pomeroy is handling arrangements.

Raymond was born on April 26, 1926, in Clare, to John and Margaret (Doyle) Fitzgerald. He graduated from St. Matthew's Catholic High School, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Japan during the final weeks of World War II. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Clare to farm and care for his parents until they passed.

On Sept. 5, 1959, he was united in marriage to Alice Ann Cain. To this union was born six children, Margaret, John, Matthew, Christopher, Theresa and Bridget. John passed away Jan. 8, 1973.

Ray was the manager of Hansen Manufacturing in Pomeroy for many years. Prior to his retirement, he was an active businessman and eventually teamed with his son, Christopher, running their company, Pomeroy Manufacturing. After retirement, Raymond was active in the Byron's - card playing group. He was very artistic and enjoyed doing caricatures of family and friends.

Those who have survived and are deeply blessed for having shared in Raymond's life include his loving wife, Alice Ann, five children, Maggie (Dean) Jesse of North Liberty, Matthew (Sheryl) Fitzgerald of Omaha, Neb., Christopher (Peggy) Fitzgerald of Pomeroy, Theresa (Fitzgerald) Unkrur of Chicago, Ill., and Bridget (Leon, deceased) Barba of Oxford, ten grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and two sisters, Rosemary Lampe of Ottumwa, and Margaret Ann Huibsch of Joplin, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John, his brothers Tom and Joe and his son-in-law, Leon.
