ROCKWELL CITY - Kenneth L. Gleason 85, entered his heavenly home Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 surrounded by his family, at the Sunny Knoll Care Centre, Rockwell City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Rockwell City, with Pastor Chadric Dietrich officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City.
Kenny is survived by his wife Thelma; four sons, David Gleason of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mark (Jayne Lawson) Gleason of Rockwell City, Dean (Brenda Brundage) Gleason of Gowrie, and Brian (Vicki Board) Gleason of Rockwell City; 10 grandchildren, Stacey, Nathan, Jill, Kari, Kevin, Kristi, Kali, Kathleen, Audrey, and Abby; eight great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Miner, and brother Delbert Gleason, both of Fort Dodge; and good family friend Mark "Albert" Schilling of Rockwell City. He was preceded in death by his parents, August W. and Florence Sommerfeld Gleason; brother-in-law Jack Miner; and sister-in-law Gloria Gleason.
Kenneth Lowell Gleason was born Jan. 6, 1923 in rural Rockwell City. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Somers High School with the Class of 1941. On Feb. 3, 1945 he was united in marriage to Thelma Mericle at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. They farmed the family farm, including raising cattle and hogs, and also did custom baling for many years. Kenny also worked for IBP in Fort Dodge until their closing. Kenny enjoyed spending time with his family, pitching for area baseball and softball teams and following his favorite sports teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Phoenix Suns. He also enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour Western Novels. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, past Trustee, and founding member of the Church Choir. He was also a member of the Manson Saddle Club, Twin Lakes Golf Club, past member of the Cedar Valley School Board, and past member of the Somers Elevator Board.
