The Internal Revenue Service is hunting for dozens of Fort Dodge area residents.
Those people don't have anything to fear from the tax collector, however. They don't owe the government money. Instead, the government owes them.
The federal agency is trying to track down people who didn't get their income tax refunds or their economic stimulus checks.
According to the IRS, 61 Economic Stimulus Payment Checks could not be delivered in the area.
In Webster County, $11,305 worth of economic stimulus money remains to be collected.
Fourteen income tax refund checks also were returned to the IRS because of address errors.
''In Iowa, the average undeliverable stimulus payment is $549 while the average regular refund sent back is $918,'' said Christopher Miller, a spokesman for the IRS. ''That's a lot of money for families who may be looking for a little extra cash as the holidays approach.''
According to Miller, incorrect addresses are causing residents to miss their checks from the IRS.
He said there are two options for getting updated address information to the tax agency: Visit IRS.gov and click on Where's my stimulus payment? or Where's my refund? Or, call (866) 234-2942 for stimulus payment information or (800) 829-1954 for tax refund information.
Both the Internet and phone options provide a way for individuals to report their new address to the IRS.
Those who still haven't received their Economic Stimulus Payment Checks must update their address by Nov. 28. That's because those checks must be sent out by Dec. 31.
