IRIS KENNEDY

JEFFERSON - Iris Kennedy, 84, formerly of Lake City died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with Rev. Betty Weidert officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.

Iris N. Kennedy, daughter of John W. and Mary Forrest Stringer, was born at Guthrie Center, Iowa on September 24, 1924. When Iris was six years old the family moved to Lake City, Iowa. When she was 14 years old she joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 1942 she graduated from high school and later attended Business College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Over the years she was employed by the Lake City Greenhouse Flower Shop where she enjoyed gardening, transplanting, and working with the flowers. On May 23, 1979 she was united in marriage to Charles P. Kennedy at Boone, Iowa.

Iris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Iris Irene (known as Susie) and Joe Kennedy of Jefferson, Iowa, and her son, Ivan D. Ripley (known as Junior) of Cuba, Missouri. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Barbara Newton, Bill Bishop, Betty Dykes, Brenda Kennedy, Angela Stanley, Michael Ripley, Scott Thomas Ripley, and Jennifer Ripley; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles, son, Roger Dale Ripley, and brothers, Capt. John D. Stringer and Dean L. Stringer, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Jean Ripley.
