To the editor:
Election Day is just around the corner and you have an opportunity to make a positive change in Webster County. We need a sheriff we can depend on to protect us and uphold the law; a department administered by a sheriff with experience, fairness and integrity. That's why I'm voting for Curt Ruby for Webster County sheriff.
I have known Curt Ruby for almost 20 years. In my professional career working with domestic violence offenders, I have witnessed Curt's ability to bring people together in order to make sure victims of crime are kept safe and perpetrators are held accountability. He has trained law enforcement officers across our state in the most effective methods for intervening in these potentially deadly situations.
In Webster County, we have one of the best protocols for handling domestic violence from arrest to prosecution and I strongly believe we would not be where we are without Curt's willingness to take the lead and tackle this controversial issue so many years ago.
In the meantime, his opponent to my knowledge has not once attended a family violence coalition meeting.
I have never heard him speak out about the problem of violence in our community or what he intends to do about it.
It is my understanding that one of the best ways to deal with crime is community policing. Community policing is a philosophy which support the use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques. Curt has this ability. He can bring people together so that we as a community can work together to support law enforcement ... to rid our county of drugs, violence and other crimes.
I also know Curt as a regular citizen of Badger. I know him to be a friendly neighbor always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. Over the years he has volunteered on many boards and helped with many causes.
Curt has multiple talents but with all his skills and training, I have never once seen him put on airs or treat anyone with disrespect.
Curt is someone that as a sheriff we could call and we'd know our concerns would be listened to and addressed.
... There is clearly only one choice. On Nov. 4, I am asking you to join me in voting for the only candidate for sheriff who can lead us forward.
Vote for Curt Ruby!
