LANYON - The Rev. Marc Murchison is the new pastor of Evangelical Covenant Church in Lanyon.
Murchison will be installed Sunday at the morning worship service, with Midwest Covenant Conference Superintendent, Rev. Kenneth Carlson, officiating and preaching. The service is at 9:30 a.m., and there will be a luncheon following Sunday School.
The public is invited to attend. Information is available from the church by calling 879-2414.
As the new pastor at the Covenant Church, Murchison said he is "excited about seeing the new things God will do in and through the church." He says he is "on a mission from God," to quote the movie "The Blues Brothers."
"I believe that rural churches and churches in small towns often overlook their strengths," Murchison said. "We can get caught up in comparing ourselves to mega churches, big city churches and even other churches in neighboring areas. God did not call his church to imitate. God called us to create. I'm here to assist the church to become the best it can be - strengths and weaknesses all considered."
Murchison said he and his wife, Elise, "have received a very warm welcome from a sincere group of loving Christians at the Covenant Church."
The couple has three grown daughters and three grandchildren. Elise Murchison is a social worker/case worker at Rabiner Treatment Center in Fort Dodge. Murchison is an avid outdoorsman who loves hunting and fishing. He has been involved in many conservation organizations through the years and said he looks forward to getting involved in the local community in this way once again.
In 1974 Marc Murchison first sensed God calling him into ministry, he never dreamed that the call would lead him to seven states and two foreign countries - Kenya and Haiti. Since then, he has lived out this calling as a youth pastor, a senior pastor and a missionary in California, Colorado, Idaho, Wisconsin, Illinois and most recently in Missouri as a missionary to international students at college and university campuses in the St. Louis area.
