Algona wins own invite

ALGONA - The Algona boys cross country team captured their home invitational on Monday.

The Bulldogs placed all five of their counters in the Top-25 and had the individual champion as well. Algona finished with 46 points, while Spirit Lake (55) was second, followed by Webster City (126).

Eagle Grove (161) finished sixth, while St. Edmond (223) was ninth.

Algona sophomore Ryan McMahon (16:19) was the individual champion. Chad Rutledge (16:40) finished third and Mitchell Davis (16:56) was sixth giving the Bulldogs three runners in the Top-10. Also counting for Algona was Alex Kenne (17:12) in 13th and Derek Beaumier (17:35) in 23rd.

Webster City's Ben Lambert (16:41) finished fourth, while Alex Lampe (17:33), Matt Severe (17:35) and Mason Powers (17:35) went 20, 21 and 22. The Lynx final counter was Ryan Colin (18:59) in 59th.

For Eagle Grove, Mitch Hill (16:57) and Zach Thompson (16:58) finished seventh and eighth respectively. Taylor Smith (18:37) and Dana Watson (18:40) were 46th and 47th, while Jakson Locke (18:53) was 53rd.

St. Edmond, who was running without top runner Josh Madsen, saw Rex Rodenborn finish 10th in 17:07.24. Zach Yetmar (17:39) was 24th, Lance Maguire (18:53) was 52nd, Justin Mikos (19:25) was 65th and Jacob McCarville (19:51) finished 72nd.

''We are obviously a different team with out him (Madsen),'' said St. Edmond head coach Mike Szalat. ''Rex, had his personal best, while Yetmar and Maguire were close to theirs.''

Girls

On the girls side Spirit Lake (56) was the winner, followed by Fairmont (61). Humboldt (134) was third and St. Edmond (145) finished fifth.

''Our top four did what they normally do,'' Szalat said. ''There were five rated teams from different classes and I think we finished behind them.

''I'm sure we've never been under 200 at Algona.''

Bishop Garrigan's Katrina Even (15:46) brought back silver medal honors, finishing just behind winner Lauren Friese (15:39) of Fairmont.

For Humboldt, they placed all its runners in the top 45 and three in the Top-25.

Katie Fevord (16:32) was 11th for the Wildcats, while Kallie Kollmorgen was (16:44) was 18th. Rounding out the counters for Humboldt was Jessica Kuyper (16:55) in 24th, Alissa Bornhoft (17:17) in 38th and Paige Hock (17:31) in 43rd.

St. Edmond's Lexi Ronconi came close to the Top-10, placing 12th. She crossed the tape in 16:34.

Rounding out St. Edmond scores was Liz Crimmins (16:47) in 20th, Theresa Doyle (17:01) in 28th, Emily Hindt (17:02) in 29th and Emily Hogan (17:57) in 56th.

''It's nice to have our fifth runner (Hogan) up there,'' Szalat said. ''It's the best we've done up there by a long shot.''

Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer's Michelle Hubbell (16:12) was sixth and her teammate Kirsten Youngberg (16:43) was 14th.

Algona's Katie Connick (16:43) was 17th and Stella Arndorfer 917:17) was 37th.

Eagle Grove's Sarah Christiansen (16:58) and Stephanie Herrington (16:58) crossed the tape in 26th and 27th place.

Emmetsburg's Racheal Moore 917:13) was 35th.
