Iowa Central Community College will celebrate homecoming week , beginning Wednesday, with activities and events for students and alumni culminating in the Saturday afternoon football game at Dodger Stadium.
Iowa Central is trying to get an established homecoming tradition started and is making every attempt to reach out to students, both current and past. On Wednesday night, a homecoming bonfire with free hot dogs, cookies and cocoa will take place on campus in the northeast parking lot near the Triton Inn. The Iowa Central cheerleaders and dance team are sponsoring this event which is open to all from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m.
On Thursday, Iowa Central students will have the chance to combine politics and dancing. At 8 p.m., the student senate invites conversation and discussion while viewing the first vice-presidential debate of the season on the big screen television in the Student Union/Triton Inn. Refreshments will be served starting at 7:30 in preparation for the verbal exchanges of Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska).
At 10 p.m. Thursday, the vice presidential candidates will give way to the homecoming dance, sponsored by the student senate, cheerleaders and dance team.
At 12:30 p.m. on Friday, an all-school pep rally will be held in the Hodges Fieldhouse gymnasium. All Triton fall sports teams will be recognized at that time.
The unbeaten Triton football team will play College of DuPage (Illinois) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dodger Stadium, but that's just the beginning. Back on campus following the game, will be a tailgate party, food included. At 7 p.m. Saturday, the Triton rodeo team will host the Triton Stampede at the Dayton Rodeo Arena. The weekend concludes with more rodeo action at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Performing during many of these homecoming week outings will be the Iowa Central cheerleaders coached by Amanda Bowers and dance team under the direction of Lesa Dencklau. Both are award-winning squads with top routines and they will perform at the game as well as at some of the other featured events during the homecoming celebration week.
