Plea hearings delayed
Two Renwick men charged in FD robbery, connected to death of Colby PettigrewBy KATIE WILLIAMS, Messenger staff writer
A plea hearing for two Renwick men in connection with Colby Pettigrew's death, originally scheduled for Tuesday in Webster County District Court, has been delayed.
A new plea date is scheduled for Oct. 23.
Sergio Jimenez, 21, and Michael Zamora, 19, were arrested and charged in April with first-degree robbery, which is a Class B felony, punishable with up to 25 years in prison.
An investigation into the death of 20-year-old Pettigrew in February led police to look into the attempted robbery at Casey's General Store, 1133 S. 22nd St., on Feb. 5.
According to investigators, two gunmen, one with a handgun and the other with a shotgun, walked into the store and demanded money from the register, but the clerk refused.
Evidence was allegedly found at the home of Zamora that connects him to the robbery and Pettigrew's death.
According to search warrants and witnesses, on Feb. 8, Zamora allegedly took something from Pettigrew who then followed him outside at the Kum & Go in the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue South. He was then dragged alongside a blue pickup truck as he fought with Zamora. Pettigrew fell from the outside of the truck and may have been run over as the alleged driver, Matthew Lee Fowler, 19, sped away. A trial for Fowler is scheduled for Oct. 14.
An ambulance was called to the scene. Pettigrew was initially found conscious when he was taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center. He was later transported to Des Moines, where he died on Feb. 12 as a result of his injuries.
Investigators filed search warrants identifying Fowler and Zamora as suspects in the incident based on surveillance video from the Kum & Go.
Investigators searched Zamora's home and found a white Cadillac that matched one that witnesses described leaving the scene of the Feb. 5 robbery at the Casey's store. According to the returned search warrant, the car was parked in front of the Renwick house that Zamora shared with Jimenez. Investigators reported seeing shotgun shells in the car.
A blue 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which matched witness accounts, was found at Cesium Products where Fowler worked.

So they are robbers, and the video shows them taking something from Colby, then dragging him, running him over and he dies. There are no charges filed against them for Colbys death at all. Yes, I will say it, what if Colby was white the offenders Black. This is an outrage.
