Paxton resignation accepted by board

POSTED: August 28, 2008

Dr. Bob Paxton will walk away from Iowa Central Community College with a $400,000 severance package.

In a brief meeting of the Iowa Central board of trustees, which drew about 50 people, Paxton's resignation was unanimously accepted and the severance deal was approved.

Chuck Peterson, former vice president of financial affairs, will step in as liason during the search for Paxton's replacement.

aganger I was going to say that America has better things to do than laugh at Fort Dodge but then I realize that there is a Britney Spears headline everyday, so I may be wrong!

I still think Paxton rocks. A man that age that parties with chicks that young has my admiration. I don't know why the rest of you are so upset. It's not like he was doing your daughter.

well according to people who know those kids Paxton is on the boat with, they are not of age. Just because the paper said they were doesnt mean thats the truth

I just heard the news story on Fox News here in California and I have to laugh. I went an looked at the picture expecting to see teenage girls in wet t-shirt contests while he poured beer on them. America is laughing at Fort Dodge. It would seem to me that Fort Dodge has bigger fish to fry than forcing an administrator out for doing nothing illegal. If all you have on him is holding a mini keg over some other adults head, helping her shoot a slug, then, in my opinion that is sad. What about the person in the front of the photo holding the vodka bottle. Is that lady being asked to resign from her position (what ever she does) because she is pouring the booze into someone’s mouth? Iowalady says Paxton needs bars. For what? Unless the people in the boat are underage, he has done nothing illegal. Paxton’s family may be embarrassed but they can cry all the way to the bank.

Badger: This has nothing to do with hating someone because of their success. Its not even about hating him, its about him being held accountable for his actions. Maybe this whole ordeal isn't as serious as the grade changing but obviously the majority of Fort Dodge citizens think enough is enough. Who knows maybe the only reason he got on that boat and chose to do what he did was because he didn't get fired for the other things? Its just like any other human, if you do so many bad things and never get caught you're going to keep doing them until you have to deal with your consequences. Outlaw: I respect you very much because you speak your opinion without bashing him. It makes reading these blogs so much more worth while when someone can stay so possitive. Thank you.

It's not the we hate people that are successful we hate people that are jerks to everyone around them. It's a difference.

I'm disgusted that Paxton got such a severence package. And free health insurance! His contract said he'd get nothing if he left due to bad behavior. I guess only regular Joes have to take their contracts seriously. The Messenger has consistently downplayed this story and shown obvious bias in what it did "report." Why give Paxton credit for expanded enrollment at ICCC? Community college enrollment is burgeoning all over, not because of brilliant presidents but because four-year colleges have become too expensive for many people to afford! Or maybe His Holiness Paxton somehow managed to boost enrollment all over the state. Right. Now it's time to hold Mr. "He-did-nothing-wrong" Crimmins accountable. The good-old-boys club needs to be demolished.

I was never a fan of Dr Paxton, dealt with him on a professional level. I thought I would always enjoy this day but I don't, I feel bad for the man. A photo showing a group of legal adults drinking and he has to step down. I hope ICCC will continue to grow but that man made it happen. I guess the next president is going to have to be a saint. I know I can’t throw the first stone.

Yes Mr. Paxton did do alot for ICCC. For that we should thank him. But give him money when he resigned? Glad I don't live up there or own property so a new tax can be added to keep ICCC up to date and running. Thank you Mr. Paxton for all you have done positive for ICCC. But for all the negative attention you have brought to ICCC, grow up.

Paxton has done more for the Fort Dodge economy than anyone in the past 10 years. A lot of people in Fort Dodge hate individuals that have a vision and are successful. Now that Paxton is gone all of you haters can focus on electing Obama in hopes that he will bring Hormels back to the Dodge.

I couldnt wait to see all the stuff on here about Dr Paxton. I, like most of you, have never met the man and dont want to think about what kind of a person he is. I do think from what I have heard this is best for all concerned. I just hope people will leave it alone now and let the man go in peace and worry about what we are going to do to attract a replacement. Hope someone else will like Fort Dodge and enjoy the new Aquatic Center when it gets built. Pretty good timing on that project dont you think? Now, we can attract new people to our town.

thendrickson good point! It is all about expectation. Iowalady, I don't about how much of a lady you are but everyone needs prayer. Even if they need jail bars, even more. But it is his family that I am most concerned for. Thank heaven that it is not your dad.

Yep Dodger all those positives, I seriously doubt you'll have much problem finding a well qualified president of good character who will build well on what's been started.

In fact I suspect the fact that Mr. Paxton was held accountable will help to ensure your next president will be of better character than the last.

Outlaw, it is nice that you are Christain in your thinking but people like Paxon don't need saving or prayers they need jail bars!

It’s about time that Paxton got a punishment for all the things he has done. Changing grades, being a jerk (to put it nicely) acting inappropriately basically all of the time…….the list goes on and on. At least this time he got caught by some unknown paparazzi. Thank heavens he is out of Dodge. We are all better for it. I can’t wait to see what the new trial will bring. HEHEHHEEE

What I mean by hard time, obviously is not financial but I hope that he feels humbled and he has know the pain and embarrassment he caused his family. I like his wife I don't know her well but he did hurt the people closest to him--his family. Also by this blogs he has definitely has some people who really dislike him a LOT! I am in no way defending him but I don't think that he could feel to good today or have a easy road ahead.

He can really have a party now and he can buy the kegs. Not a bad day pays. Outlaw what do you mean hard times for him.
