Faulty insulators caused an utility pole to catch fire in Fort Dodge Wednesday morning.

The pole on the 2900 block of North 15th Street, near the Culligan Water Conditioning building, was tended to by MidAmerican Energy linemen who had to cut the power to the pole before attempting to put out the fire.

"It was going pretty good for a little pole when I got here," said Fort Dodge Police Officer Donald McLaren, who said he was the first to the scene.

Fort Dodge Fire Department also responded to the scene. The pole was quickly extinguished after the electricity was cut and no injuries were reported.

Approximately 15 residences lost power during the repair, said Larry Larson, lineman for MidAmerican Energy.
