Manson residents turn out for drainage meetingEngineer: Manson’s situation is ‘second worst’ he’s seen
MANSON - More than 100 Manson residents attended an informational meeting held Tuesday night to answer questions concerning proposed improvements to Drainage District 120.
Don Etler, consulting engineer of Kuehl and Payer LTD, the engineering firm hired by the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors to study the drainage district needs, fielded most of the residents' questions.
Manson Mayor David George also answered questions.
Etler presented an overview of the proposed improvements. He described the drainage challenges facing the city of Manson as ''the second worst situation I have ever seen.''
Etler said the improvements proposed at Tuesday night's meeting are intended to handle a 50-year storm.
Jane Goeken, community development specialist with the Iowa State Extension Service, was present to moderate the meeting.
When Goeken opened the question-and-answer session, she said, ''It takes fortitude and faith in the future to consider making a major community improvement such as this.''
Residents of Drainage District 120 will receive a mailing from the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors next week informing them of the estimated drainage assessment on their property.

This is what happens when you build on a crater. We had nothing but problems with this when we lived there, and no one listened to us. Thank goodness the people are finally having their voices heard.
