Several Messengerland baseball players were placed on the IHSBCA all-district teams recently.
Fort Dodge players Eddy Diosdado and Jay Lombard both earned first team honors in the Class 4A Central District, while teammates Ricky Sandquist and Tyler Leadley were each placed on the second squad.
Diosdado, a junior outfielder, batted .421 with 14 home runs this year - the most by any Dodger since Andy Josephson clubbed a single-season program record 22 in 1996.
Lombard, a utility pick, hit .515 with 10 homers and 15 doubles.
Sandquist, a junior pitcher, recorded a 7-3 record on the mound with an earned run average of 2.27. He also sported a .379 batting average at the plate.
Leadley, an outfielder and a pitcher, batted .418 with 24 stolen bases and compiled a 5-1 mark on the mound.
St. Edmond, meanwhile, was represented on the 2A Central District first team by juniors Joey Flattery, Jon Flattery and Patrick Flattery. In addition, classmate John Engler made the second squad for the Gaels.
Joey Flattery went 6-1 on the hill, while hitting .397 with six homers and 39 RBI at the plate. He fanned 90 in 51 1/3 innings of work.
Jon Flattery compiled a perfect 6-0 pitching record with a 2.09 ERA. He also tallied a team-high .482 batting average, adding six home runs and 41 runs scored.
Catcher Patrick Flattery hit .398 and drove in 23 runs. The right-hander was 4-1 on the mound as well with 47 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings.
As a first baseman, Engler batted .419 with six homers, 41 runs and 44 RBI. He carried a 7-1 pitching record with a 1.94 ERA.
Ryan Lynn (pitcher), Jon Morris (third base) and Alex Grandgeorge (utility) all garnered first-team honors for Eagle Grove in 2A, while Jimmy Cherry (outfielder) landed a spot on the second squad.
Humboldt's Levi Miller (shortstop) and South Hamilton's Brett Bell (outfielder) were both members of the top team, and Levi Peters (shortstop) of Twin River Valley made the second squad.
In the 2A Northwest District, Ben Mueggenberg (pitcher) and Wade McDonough (utility) each claimed spots on the first team for East Sac County.
Emmetsburg's Ryan Wuebker (third base) was picked for the first squad, while Mitch Wagner (outfielder) and Taylor Morris (utility) grabbed second team honors for the E'Hawks.
Kyle Hibbing (catcher) was a top choice from Webster City. Teammates Ryan Vande Zande (third base) and Sean Biggins (outfielder) were selected to the second squad.
Algona's Nick Thul (catcher) also received second team status.
Class 1A state champion North Sentral Kossuth saw Shaun McGuire (pitcher) and Aaron Siefken (outfielder) on the first squad. Griffin Hatten (pitcher), Chris Rock (catcher), Nick Larson (third base) and Phil Maze (outfielder) were awarded with second team recognition for the Eagles.
Christopher Schmidt (first base), Chris Gelhaus (outfielder) and Brett Capesius (utility) were each second team picks for Bishop Garrigan.
Newell-Fonda's Tyler Wells (shortstop) claimed a position on the second squad.
Tyler Menhusen (second base) landed a spot on the first team for Southeast Webster-Grand, while teammate Alex Engquist (outfielder) made the second squad.
