E’burg to celebrate sesquicentennial
EMMETSBURG - Palo Alto County's Sesquicentennial Celebration begins today, with a full line-up of events and activities lasting throughout the weekend.
Palo Alto County is made up of nine communities, with Emmetsburg operating as the county seat. The first county government was organized in 1858.
The day kicks off at 9 a.m. with games for kids at Soper Park. That will be followed by a sand volleyball tournament at the park. A list of all events is as follows:

9 a.m. - Kids Games at Soper Park
10 a.m. - Sand Volleyball Tournament at Soper Park
10 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Old Time Photos - Emmetsburg Chamber office - 1121 Broadway, Emmetsburg
10 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Quilt Show at Holy Family Church, Emmetsburg
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. - The Marv Nissel Polka Band
Afternoon - Local Entertainment at Soper Park
1 p.m. - Mayoral address, Community Band, Veteran Salute
2 p.m. - Waterhawks Water Ski Show on Five Island Lake
3 - 6 p.m. - The Irish Minstrels
7 p.m. - Sesquicentennial Queen & Princess Pageant - Soper Park
8 p.m. - Local Talent Show following the Pageant
9 p.m. - Boat Parade around Five Island Lake
10 p.m. - Fireworks at Five Island Lake, Emmetsburg With Patriotic Background Music.
Saturday
10 a.m. - Sesquicentennial Parade
After parade - Entertainment at Soper Park: Inflatables, antique tractors and cars, hog roast, Doc Anderson's Medicine Show
10 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Old Time Photos - Emmetsburg Chamber office - 1121 Broadway, Emmetsburg
11 a.m. - 4 p.m. - "Walk of the County historical display at Election Center
Noon - 2 p.m. - Local Entertainment Soper Park
Noon - 4 p.m. - Bus Tours & Tour Schools, All Schools Reunion, Buses leave & return to High School
2 - 5 p.m. - Larry Myers, Singer/Songwriter
6:30 p.m. - Wild Rose Casino's Outdoor Entertainment: Lee Greenwood, followed by fireworks
6:30 - 9:30 p.m. - Teen Dance at Iowa Lakes Community College - Prizes given away, free pop and snacks.
Sunday
7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Fly In Breakfast
1 p.m. - All-SchoolReunion closing ceremony held in the Iowa Lakes Auditorium building
6 p.m. - Time Capsule burial at Court House Square.
