DOROTHY BICKEL
HUMBOLDT - Dorothy Stella Bickel, 75, of Scottsbluff, NE, formerly of Humboldt, passed away on June 25, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ on the Mountain Catholic Church in Lakewood, CO on July 1, 2008. a family and friends rosary will be held on Monday, June 30, at Christ on the Mountain Catholic Church in Lakewood. A family and friends memorial visitation will be held at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt on July 3 from 10-12 a.m. with internment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Humboldt. Memorials may be given to St. Agnes Catholic Church and School in Scottsbluff, NE.
Dorothy was born on July 5, 1932, in Trail City, SD to Mike and Catherine Aberle. She was raised on a farm near Trail City and moved to a farm outside or Mobridge, SD, in 1942 where she lived until moving into Mobridge. While working in a local grocery store she met her husband, Delbert Bickel, who was a meat salesman for John Morrell and Co. They were united in marriage on June 11, 1955 and became very active with the Jaycees and Jayceettes on the local, state, and national level. With this marriage two sons were born, Martin born in Mobridge, SD in 1957 and Terrence of Humboldt, was born in Sioux Falls, SD in 1969, after their move with Morrell in 1965. in 1973 they moved to Humboldt, IA with Morrell where she was very active with the hospital and St. Mary's ladies auxiliaries.
After Delbert's retirement in 1987, they became snowbirds with another home in Mesa, AZ. In 1999 she made here permanent home in Mesa. In most recent years she resided in Scottsbluff, NE, to be closer to family, which she was very devoted.
Dorothy's greatest enjoyment came from all her travels. She thoroughly loved bridge with her friends and most recently playing pinochle with her sisters. She was a sports fanatic, read like the wind, and avidly worked crossword puzzles.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her survivors, which include her sons, Martin and Terrence (Shelly Watnem Bickel); brothers, James Aberle and Helen, Kent, WA, Joseph Aberle and Arlene, Miles City, MT; Leo Aberle and Nina, Saline, MI; Stephen Aberle and Kay, Lakewood, CO, Timothy Aberle and Sharon, Wadsworth, OH; sisters, Pauline and Ed Berens, Selby, SD, Lucille and Orville Kuehj, Selby, SD, Delores and Gary Neumiller, Golden, CO, Marjorie Vojta, Scottsbluff, NE, and Patricia Aberle, Scottsbluff, NE; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Del, of 36 years; parents; and two brothers, Michael and Nicholas Aberle.
