BARBARA JANE NELSON

GOWRIE — Nelson, Barbara Jane, 83, passed away at her home Monday, June 9, 2008. Funeral Service will be Thursday, 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie. Pastor Jim Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Gowrie Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.

Born May 22, 1925 in Mackinaw, MI to William and Emma (Sobleskey) Litzner. She is preceded in death by her parents and her step-mother Lillian Litzner; brother, Raymond Litzner. She is survived by her husband Lawrence; loving mother to her daughters, Sandra Nelson (Bob Sease) of Gowrie, Sharon Nelson of Bloomington, MN, and Susan Jensen (Peter) of Arden Hills, MN; five grandchildren, Carrie Kolsrud, Nicole and Dylan Nelson Sease, Tyra and Michael Jensen; one great grandchild, Jacob Kolsrud; three brothers, Leonard Litzner (Margaret), Theodore Litzner (Avis) and Rev. Norman Litzner (Pat); many nieces and nephews and friends.

Barbara was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Cheybogan, MI. She attended nurses training at the University of MI, attended Lutheran Bible Institute (1944 to 1946) of Minneapolis, MN where she met Lawrence. They were married August 27, 1947 in Cheboygan, MI and farmed there for one year before moving to the farm in Gowrie. She has been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie for 60 years. She loved music and singing and played the piano at many church functions, including junior choir. She also taught sunday school. She loved flowers and working in her vegetable garden. She lived and worked beside her beloved husband on their family farm taking many trips for Farm Bureau including two trips to Hawaii. They also took a very special trip to Sweden in 1977. She was also Director of the Webster County Homemaker Health Aide Services in Fort Dodge.

We would like to say a very special thanks to Hospice of Trinity in Fort Dodge, IA for their kindness and guidance during this time. Also to those who cared for her at the Gowrie Care Center and the private aides who came to their home and gave such loving care.

As a devoted wife and very special mother, Barbara will be missed but we know, because of her strong faith she is at peace and comfort in her heavenly home.

Memorials will be at the family’s discretion.
