ELIDA L. RHEA

CALLENDER — Elida L. Rhea, 94, died Monday, June 2, 2008 at Shady Oaks Care Center, Lake City, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Callender with Pastor Kent Wallace, officiating. Burial will be in the Callender Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m Wednesday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Evelyn Piltingsrud of Callender and brother-in-law, Ivan Hunter of Gowrie; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Burnett, Virgil, and Arnold; sister, Deloris Hunter; nephew, Neil V. Piltingsrud; and a niece, Donna Kern.

Elida Laureen Piltingsrud Rhea, daughter of Andrew and Ellen (Lundquist) Piltingsrud was born on July 13, 1913 at Leeds, North Dakota. She was baptized on August 24, 1913 in Lake Ibson Lutheran Church at Leeds, North Dakota. She grew up on a farm in Benson County and attended rural school there. Elida was confirmed on June 10, 1928 in Leeds Evangelical Church by Rev. A. O. Nesset. She attended high school in Leeds and graduated in June, 1930. That same year she moved with her family to Iowa and lived on a farm near Slifer and later moved to a farm near Callender. On February 23, 1944, Elida married Orin Rhea of Callender and the couple made their home on a farm near Roelyn till 1980 when they retired after Orin’s heart attack to their home in Callender. Orin passed away in April of 1986. Elida was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and WELCA.
