Sac City Rec Center looks to add new programs

Surveys will be available Saturday

SAC CITY — Sac City residents are being asked to do a bit of brainstorming.

Input and ideas for future classes and offerings at the Sac City Recreation Center are being sought by the center’s board of directors.

Both center members and the public are invited to go to the rec center, which is on West Main Street next to the public library, during a volunteer work day beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, and fill out a survey. They can also lend a little elbow grease as the center is cleaned out, painted and rooms are organized to be better utilized.

Concessions and refreshments will be offered while work continues throughout the day.

“We’re basically looking for ideas to revise the place,” said Julie Kitt of the center’s special events and fundraising committee. “We’d like to offer more programs, possibly something after school so our kids will have more options of what to do.”

The goal is to expand and build on what is already offered, she said. Summer recreation programs and team sports such as soccer, baseball, softball and football are popular and attract a good number of participants. Still, new ideas can bring fresh members.

“We’re just trying to appeal to more people,” Kitt said. “We want to utilize the center more than ever before.”

The Sac City Recreation Center has been operating for more than a decade, drawing 250 members when it first opened. It currently has 177 members.

“Everyone is welcome Saturday,” Kitt said. “We’re open to all ages and any ideas are more than welcome.”
