Gailey convicted on kidnapping, burglary, arson
SAC CITY — A Sac County jury returned a guilty verdict on all counts Wednesday afternoon in the trial of Denis Gaily, a Webster County man charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary and second-degree arson.
Gailey, 41, was accused of kidnapping his wife and young daughter at gun point April 25, 2007 and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase east of Fort Dodge. He was also accused of soaking his family’s home near Moorland with diesel fuel in an attempt to burn it.
A sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled. First-degree kidnapping is a class A felony, each count punishable with life in prison. First-degree burglary and second-degree arson are both class B felonies and each carry the possibility of up to 25 years in prison.
The trial was held in Sac County due to a change of venue request.
