Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Flag presentation will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; son, Keith of Spirit Lake; daughter, Sandy Kallansrud of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Mike (Amie) Kallansrud of Fort Dodge, Tonya (Nathan) Himley of San Diego, Calif.; great grandson Cort Kallansrud; brothers, Paul (Anna Mae) Whittington of Fort Dodge, and Robert (Norma Jean) Henry of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents Gus and Josie (Kearney) Whittington.
John M. Whittington was born on September, 26, 1920 in Fort Dodge. He attended Corpus Christi School. Following his education he became employed for Leighton Supply. John served with the U.S. Army Air Force in England during WWII. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Fort Dodge and resumed his employment with Leighton Supply until his retirement after 41 years of service. On Jan. 14, 1950, he was united in marriage to Bernice Jondle of Moorland at Corpus Christi Church and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. John enjoyed his home on Lake Okoboji, fishing, boating, and traveling. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 1856.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the donor’s discretion.
