Nobody can stop talking about the moccasins.
The shoes were made famous when Sen. Hillary Clinton was reminded to tie her shoe during a campaign stop in Webster City on Tuesday.
An audience member questioned Clinton about campaign spending, and then said ‘‘Would you tie your shoe so you don’t trip over it?’’
The audience roared and Clinton, delighted, laughed.
The New York senator mentioned she bought them at the Fort Museum — and that’s when people got to talking.
The Minnetonka moccasins were purchased at the Fort Museum July 6 when she was in Fort Dodge to give a speech at the nearby Opera House.
‘‘She bought the mocha deerskin moccasin,’’ said Alan Schaefer, Fort Museum director. ‘‘They cost $42.’’
Schaefer had the details down by Wednesday after receiving a phone call from CNN, which was hoping to get the details for its program, The Situation Room.
Another call from the representative of Minnetonka wanted to know which style Clinton purchased, Schaefer said.
‘‘A tourist from Cedar Rapids just came in and asked about the moccasins because he heard a blurb on NPR,’’ Schaefer said.
However, the moccasins haven’t become a hot selling item, yet. Schaefer said nobody has made a moccasin purchase since the story broke.
‘‘I guess it’s a good thing that Clinton finds them exceptionally comfortable,’’ he said. ‘‘Unfortunately, they come untied from time to time.’’
