Only in terms of the squeamishness of those who object to eating either horse meat or such shellfish, Aaron... Ever made the mistake of biting into a raw oyster? One man's abomination in that regard may be another man's delight; my kids grew up on lamb, my nieces gagged at the thought. The fed's say blood sausage is "putrid" and cannot be made in federally inspected processing plants; it's made all over Europe as it was in my mother's kitchen. That's "custom." BOW, eighteen years on the shores of the North Sea and the Med put me a bit closer to oceans than Iowa.

I could go on and on about this issue and how crazy it is not to have an option like horse processing for owners. I am a farmer and have enjoyed horse burgers so I think I qualify to talk about this issue. The government still has horses listed as a livestock animal and not a domesticated animal for 1 so lets use them like we would any other livestock. If you want to ride your horse....Great !! Thats fine, who cares ! If you feel your horse is better use to you as a marketable product like meat.....Great, make some money ! I think its crazy how people almost suggest we should give an IQ test to an animal before we eat it.

Hey Andy... any chance you have ever seen the ocean... or a sea? Or have really had a chance to enjoy some really good seafood. The idea that you would compare horse meat and seafood such as oysters, crabs, scallops or shrimp or even lobster is laughable. Custom has nothing to do with it.

Don't know how much horse meat I may have eaten in France and Belgium where it's been eaten for generations without too many imbibers dropping dead in the streets, Katie, but it was a lot tastier than the camel meat I ate in North Africa. Certainly it's safer - and tastier - than a lot of shellfish. It's a matter of custom, not of marality.
