Wish all participants "Bon voyage, enjoy!" But it's the younger generations that would most benefit by being reminded that their liberty, security and physical comforts should not be taken for granted; they were won and have been defended with blood. I find it sad, however, that The Mall is coming to remind one of the what Rome's cramped Forum must have looked like at its zenith, a paeon to the State. Would that all the memorials were more like those from the two wars in which I was involved, Korea and Vietnam: a squad of "grunts" trudging across the landscape in the first instance, and those raising the flag on Iowa Jima's Mount Suribachi in the second.
