Hey, we knew Democrats' brains were wired backwards, but we STILL didn't think they'd be stupid enough to draft a smoking ban the way they did. They insisted the ban wouldn't cause bar owners to lose business -- but exempted casinos (you know -- so they wouldn't lose business). Also, they proclaimed smoke-free bars were what the majority of the people wanted -- you know, that's why there was so few of them. Any bar could have been smoke free all along, yet very few of them were -- why's that? Oh, yeah -- it's because the majority didn't want them that way. Plus they could have at least exempted plain old "beer joint" bars, which don't serve food, no children in there ever, and where almost 100% of the clientele smokes. But that would make sense, so we know THAT ain't happenin'.

charge...I agree that the casinos should be smoke free too. But I have to disagree with you when you say the majority of people didn't want smoke free bars. More people go to bars now and enjoy themselves because they don't have to worry about second hand smoke. How many bars have had to shut down because of no smoking?

It isn't because of the no smoking ban. Fort Dodge has always had a history of bars opening and closing. Poor management and knowledge, along with the economy are the causes. I have heard many bar owners across the state say that the smoking ban has helped their businesses.

call your local legislator if you don't like the law. Local FD bars are just using the smoking ban as an excuse. As I stated before FD bars open and close ALL the time. Most are poorly run.

There wasn't a huge demand for smoke-free bars -- the fact that there was so few of them proves it. And they knew the smoking ban was going to be bad for bar business -- the fact that they exempted their casinos proves it.
