hbockoven... When hiring a person who is going to be a department head of the city and influence future decisions I would think it would be appropriate to ask candidates for police chief what their future goals and aspirations are. And are there any jobs or reasons you would leave before five years. If he was applying for an entry level position with the city you probably don't ask those questions. How much was spent on the search? Did the city hire an outside firm to narrow the list down? I would think the hiring committee would be disappointed if he left after 2 years and they had to go through all the expense and time to hire another police chief.

@BornRaisedinFD, I don't know about that. If all employers asked if their potentials would apply for another job, they would have no employees or a bunch who lied. Not sure of the family issue, but if he has aging parent(s) nearing the end, I would want to be closer to them myself. He only holds a job, and people come and go from it.

If Carmody is already looking to get out after just a little over 2 years, be it to get closer to family or another reason, the city of FD made a poor decision in hiring him. Having a department manager that makes decisions on how the police department operates in the near future and beyond affects the whole town. The city listened to him when it came to the cameras. What happens if he leaves and the next police chief is not in favor of them? The city better sit down with him and find out if he plans on applying for other jobs. That should have been a question they asked him before they hired him though.

He applied for that job to get closer to his family than he is now. It was stated in the earlier articles about the potential he may leave.

@BornRaisedinFD, we could look at the other side of the coin. He has been deeply involved in FD politics, how FD runs, and criminal elements of FD. How many of his own officers have had legal problems? After all that, can you blame him for wanting out?

Carmody says "But I also feel that we're truly blessed here. I see a very bright future here in Fort Dodge, and I want to be a part of it." If he wanted to be here he would not have applied for the job in Omaha. How many other jobs has he applied for that we don't know about? Two and a half years in FD and he is already applying for another job? Sounds like he ain't for long in FD.

He is still here because they didn't pick him. If he did not want to leave, he would not of applied. I have no issue with Carmody what so ever, but it seems he remains because another city didn't want him.
