Property tax hike to come before FD council Monday

If they really want to ruin the economy, raising taxes again will do it. Homeowners will find their property not selling, even at give away prices. Renters will have to pay higher rent. If the city had to pay taxes on their huge rental property business like the other towns do, they couldn't afford it. Giving tax abatement for speculative housing that's a head of it's time is a gamble at best. The caretakers are building a foundation on sand with their overpaid taxpayer funded jobs. I've seen city officials driving expensive new vehicles, dressed to impress. The taxpayers are buying this "success look" for them. Sam Walton drove an old beat up pickup and Warren Buffet drove an old 1984 Caddy, but they produced some big results. They earned their successful images. No individuals should be prospering more than the community from taxpayer and grant monies.

Its not a matter of cant pay its that i dont think giving more money is the answer. I think spending more wisely is. Thats what i have to do in my household when we dont have enough money. I dont go to my employer and tell them they have to give me more money.

Anybody who can't pay this increase in property tax or the PPEL really needs to think about moving to Gowrie. YOu can't maintain your property, you don't want to move the city forward, most of you don't vote anyway. No wonder FD has a tough time attracting or keeping business.

it is my understanding that a the employer pay 100% of the benefits and the employee pays ZERO.

Don't forget the proposed new school tax on taxpayers. Before long,any intelligent cfo or ceo will deem Fort Dodge as an unfriendly business environment just based alone on local taxes. Vote no on February 5th for the sake of the kids.

Not complaining. Its just that time of year. I am curious if they have to pay more for the benifits or if it is just employer increase. My premiums go up everyother year sometimes every yearvare thiers? I dont want to pay more but if there is truly a need then thats what we need to do.
