Someone pointed out that all these shooters were registered Democrats or came from families so registered. Perhaps we should just ban any weapons for Democrats and other "lefties."

And one more regulation, whether or guns or anything else, is unlikely to provide the public with the cradle-to-grave security to which you lefties aspire in a gelded age where an anything goes, multicultural social structure is pursued but, as Theo Dalrymple said of an already neutered Europe, "the sweet dream of universal cultural compatibility has been replaced by the nightmare of permanent conflict."

Anderson...You're asking those who have lost a child or family member or friend to this callousness to just "man-up" and let it go?...THAT PAIN NEVER GOES AWAY! Hearts are broken forever! America tried your way and it failed miserably! I may be the last calling for change, but if it means I may never have to endure the pain of losing a loved one to such idiocy, I'll at least keep trying!

Indeed, you did not advocate tearing anything down, bubu, that was raised in an editorial - but that is what I would term wallowing in grief, preserving the pain rather than overcoming it with fortitude. The hysteria is the rush to judgement - and legislation - that seems always to follow every deplorable event by those who do not want to let any crisis to go to waste as they push govt to regulate us all into some kind of heaven on earth.

Your "common sense gun legislation" does nothing to protect the living! I'm done!

Anderson...I never called for tearing down anything...Sensible gun legislation is my choice in honoring and remembering the dead. You called it "hysteria." I suggested you might want to use a different word. I'm sure the parents or families of the dead wouldn't consider changes "hysteria."

So, tearing down the school building "honors" the dead, bubu? If I thought so, I'd have plumped for tearing down the Capitol as a memorial to the congressmen those Puerto Rican madmen killed there, a Texas U tower, Columbine High, a Tasmanian and a CA McD's, that Colorado mall/theater complex and God knows what else! That way, the empty spaces would be "memorials" to both victims and the madmen who killed them. Sorry, don't buy it.

Anderson...I'm not holding my breath for common sense gun legislation, but I do know without it, the killing will continue. As to "hysteria," maybe you could have chosen a better word...honoring the dead would call for it!

We'll see how that gun control law does in the Democrat-controlled Senate, bubu, even if Feinstein has had second thoughts about herself having in the past bought and trained with a weapon for HER personal security. Doubt her wholesale ban will make it through;but if it does, let's hope the House shows less hysteria.
And why is it that it seems hysteria always moves the left to legislate? Only weeks to curtail a constitutional right but years to evaluate the environmental impacts of one more pipeline? Oh, yeah; "Never let a crisis go to waste!" And that's "deliberative" govt?

tiredofbs...CBS/New York Times...also check most recent Gallup, FOX, NBC, or CNN. I hope they're not all considered biased "liberal media" sources! The bloodletting and your NRA buds have made it a political issue whether you like it or not! Americans have had quite enough...even a significant number of those calling themselves Republican! Like I said, abuse your right, be prepared to lose your right!

Who's polls and answered by who? 100% of criminal purchases are made without any paperwork! Is that ok with you? Me neither! Pass a law to stop that! I have never witnessed a legal transaction without paperwork(although I'm sure it happens)but where do you get your figures? How are you so confident they are correct and unbiased? Eat up and regurgitate your liberal media. What I meant by the global significance of this was that the number of gun owners in this country rivals most country's military! Ask the Japanese army why they did'nt invade the mainland in WW2. I was not trying to be political(sorry to offend). Should not be a political issue. Dem or Repub...Both parties are a joke. We are sk r ewwed!

tiredofbs...No one is saying, "take away all guns!" Poll after poll show Americans heavily support common sense gun legislation especially in background checks (91%)! Forty percent of purchases are made without any questions asked! Is that OK with you? Americans are demanding change and reject a "Dodge City" mentality! You are obviously part of a vocal minority who love guns and haven't faced the pain of the Connecticut parents who had to bury their children...we must never forget the losses of life like some have so they can continue to play with their toys! The "right" has been abused, now it's time to lose! One more thing, what does a global financial crisis have to do with guns? Is everybody going to start shooting because the DOW falls 1000 pts? What right wing newsletter did that come from?

You are not being forced to carry? Are you? Free country? yes. Just run, scream, hide etc. if an sitution arises... seems to be the most used defense by most lately. Our country, your decision.

Were there good people with access to guns at any of these places you bring up? NO!NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Were they Gun free zones? Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!Yes! As a matter of fact Portland's killer was confronted by an armed citizen and immediately shot himself.Huh?! Imagine that. You did'nt see that reported on main stream (screw your overtaxed working class citizen) news did you? BTW good guys were unarmed even at Ft. Hood, (a military base)crazy! As for New Mexico, irresponible parents who did'nt expect to be shot by their own child, Who would? Now tell me how do more laws keep my child safe at school tommorow?! Alot of tradgedies are thwarted everyday by good people carrying guns. Take our guns, then we just have "laws" to keep us safe and criminals to break them. We are one of the last armed citizen countries on earth! Keep that in mind as we head into a global financial crisis. I won't even bother with the 2nd amendment argument because some here don't believe in it anyways

If I had to carry a gun with me to feel safe, I wouldn't feel free. I heard someone say the other day "that a gun in ones hand is a sign of freedom". So I was wondering if the same applies to terrorist or our enemies with guns in their hands...

Hmmm...Was the killer with his killing machine at Aurora a criminal?..NO! How about Virginia Tech?..NO! Connecticut?..NO! Columbine?..NO! New Mexico?..NO! Michigan Sihk temple?..NO! Tucson?..NO! Fort Hood?..NO! Portland Mall?..NO! Were any of the dead robbed or raped?..NO! The killer with his trusty killing machine was just content with killing! Not criminals...just the guy who lived next door who had access...apparently no amount of blood will satisfy some people!

@tiredofbs, I agree. If people only knew who was legally carrying they would be surprised. Look at the number of CCW permits issued in Webster County alone. The odds of someone(s) being near you who are carrying is quite high. That is why cities that allow CCWs have a lower rate of violent crime. The criminals don't know who may have a weapon. They like areas with strict gun laws and weapon free zones because it is safer for them to do the crimes.

Always sniping anderson - I dont want your d-m guns and there isnt a place in this country that needs more guns - ur fear mentality is such a poor excuse for this and a lot of problems in this country to do with defense, the world has caught up and we need to go beyond fighting everything with more power, it just isnt going to work anymore O man..

Typical "one-size-fits-all" mentality. Brucee! Just trying to point out that what fits Dodge and Iowa may not fit a country as vast and pluralistic as the US. We do not need another giant, overfed and overpaid federal gun control bureaucracy - and neither you nor they will get my d...d guns.

Actually, hbockhoven, it does mean limited. We have a common definition of our laws and constitution that is derived through case law. Otherwise we would all interpret each law differently. You may want to read the Heller case where the Supreme Ct did say that the right is limited.

You all would s your pants if you knew how many around you were legally carrying. However, you will never know because people who have gone through the proper legal avenues to carry are likely to be responsible and don't care to advertise(these are the people who are ticked). Criminals don't care. criminals don't obey the law.
