School shootings started almost immediately after the idiotic "Gun Free Zones" were voted in by congress. Since when should someone have to give up their innate right to self-defense just because they are on school property. The idiots are those who believe in disarming law-abiding citizens on school grounds, thereby creating "massacre zones" in schools.

The probability of the next school gun violence case involving someone who is NOT legally authorized access to a gun is probably going to be 99.99% (there are no absolutes in anything). As they taught me in Military Anti-terrorism training schools – stay away from “soft targets” which are now “gun-free” zones (schools, churches, shopping malls, federal buildings, Chicago, etc.). If someone plans to use a gun against anyone, or anything, the probability is once again very high (99.99%) that they will NOT wait until they obtain a permit to use it.

Outlaws love gun free zones. People need to wake up and start defending themselves.

Lets see, Republicans complain about incompetant teachers on the payroll, and now one wants to arm them? Lets just make it mandatory that everybody has to carry an AK-47 with at least 4 clips where ever they go. (Church, school ,court house, capital building, lawyers office, republican conventions and ect.)We would be better protected according to the NRA and some republicans. If one person opens up the rest of us can open up and kill the bad guy in the cross fire. A few people will probably die with all the stray bullets flying but hey where America, we don't care if were wrong or right as long as we can kill something. By the way, is Shaw related to King or is the Republican party just getting taken over by extreme people. I don't think Branstad could ever get this far out of main street views.

George Zimmerman was a "good guy with a gun".....and that didn't work out so well. More guns = more killing.

TREYVON MARTIN WOULD STILL BE ALIVE HAD HE JUST WALKED ON AND NOT ATTACKED ZIMMERMAN LIKE THE 6'2" "DELINQUENT (CHILD?) HE WAS (AND ON SUSPENSION FROM SCHOOL - AND PARENTS, APPARENTLY). IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO WALK BEHIND SOMEONE, JORMO. NOW, LET'S DO DREDGE UP THAT "WHITE HISPANIC" CLAPTRAP THE NYTIMES DREAMED UP.

I work in a school and I don't want to work in a building with people walking around with guns. I saw Shaw at Fareway in Humboldt right after the Newtown shooting and overheard him talking about Moltov Cocktails, come on man we dont have a moltov cocktail problem we have a gun problem.

Everytime I check the messenger, all I see is a sad story of my hometown going down the drain. People like Shaw, whether he wants to believe it or not, is helping bring Ft. Dodge down.

I'll bet any teacher or child's parent would've gave their left arm to have a pistol that day at Sandy Hook. To make law abiding gun owners pay for this is another travesty, will further divide this country and would be a big mistake. PS I have not heard anyone claim that it would be a good idea to carry a loaded rifle around any where in public nor is it necessary to confront a would be shooter, so quit playing politics.

I don't think anyone is comfortable with the general public carrying in schools. That's why I support school staff having the option to carry with some sort of specialized professional and certified training.

It's already illegal for any person under 21 to even possess a handgun. Therefore students can not have a Conceal Carry Permit. Also CCW permits do not allow rifles and shotguns to be carried. In summary any armed student would be breaking the law.

Pastor Mike... your right about the students not carrying because it is 21 and older to purchase a hand gun and/or get a permit... bjt in Iowa law our permits are a " Permit to carry weapons" it does not specify. You do not have to conceal it and it can be anything from a Samurai sword or a .50 cal BMG or a stun gun/taser you can carry rifles and shotguns, and as long as you "open carry" you can legally without a permit, and always could even before the mew "shall issue" legislation

But this is great we rely on our educators for so much already, Parents line up at the PTA meetings to complain about the lack of resources they have to do their job, then create fundraisers to buy new books computers and anything else students need... we rely on our teachers to be first responders and trained in CPR , every school building has a hand full of faculty members that are selected or volunteer and have to be trained and certified for accidents and injuries , I don't see why we are not giving our educators the tools they need to keep our children safe from a lunatic on a rampage. Being able to protect ourselves and our children should never be up for debate ! I am courage you all to be contacting your local state representatives and tell them to support this legislation!

A lot of bullets seem to "fly around" already before police arrive. What will have changed is... Mental moron will get unexpected return fire from a properly trained person(s) (something they currently don't expect) in critical time and saving lives. Clown will not be get his life on the news, thus sending a message to other would be's. I'll bet the police will send bullets "flying" also, if the idiot did'nt already shoot himself by then. Law abiding, gun owning citizen with school aged child here.
