Presidential hopefuls hit Fort Dodge
It was a special year in Fort Dodge for those interested in meeting a potential next president of the United States.
It was a year in which they could have seen U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the Opera House at the Fort Museum and Frontier Village.
Or they may have stood near a pickup on a mechanic’s lift to hear U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., talking in an auto shop at Iowa Central Community College.
And on one summer afternoon, classic music mixed with presidential politics on the City Square when singer Paul Simon joined U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn.
Yes, it was caucus time in Iowa.
It was a time when politicians who scarcely acknowledge Iowa most of the time rush to the state to woo the voters who launch the presidential process during the first-in-the nation caucuses.
With the caucuses being held earlier than ever on Jan.
