Reflects on weaponry
To the editor:
I’d like to make a few comments about Tuesday’s editorial on why America can’t come up with a better weapon than the M16/ M4.
The editorial was inaccurate in calling the M16 a submachine gun — it does not fire pistol (or subsonic) rounds, but does in fact fire supersonic rifle cartridges, therefore making it a true assault rifle.
The reason our fighting men and women won’t get a better weapon is simply because of our elected officials — namely mayors like Bloomberg and Daley, and legislators like Pelosi, Boxer, Kennedy, Schumer, Clinton, et. al. ... who think firearms manufacturers should be sued out of existence because gang-bangers use a Ruger or a Colt in the commission of a crime. This mindset would be the same as suing Chrysler, Chevrolet or Ford because some idiot got drunk and killed a bus load of kids.
Has ethanol questions

Millions of dollars have been invested building ethanol producing plants, for the purpose of cutting back on our dependence of foreign oil, with Fort Dodge now having its very own plant, VeraSun.
Help is appreciated

We would like to thank the postmen for giving their time and efforts to pick up and box all the groceries the generous people of Fort Dodge recently donated and allowed us a share of that pick-up.

It is time again for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 130 to promote poppies.
The poppies are still made by hand by the veterans in Marshalltown.
