STATE TRACK: Dodgers look to finish up strong
DES MOINES — Both the Fort Dodge boys and girls track teams are eager to prove themselves on the state’s biggest stage here this week.
Class 4A action begins at Drake Stadium here this afternoon at 2 p.m. with the boys high jump and girls discus.
The Dodger boys will be represented in four different events, including freshman Darreus Caston (200-meter dash), senior Tyler Winter (shot put), the 4x200 (Caston, juniors Nate Moeller and Jake Rautanen and sophomore Matt Hilbert) and the distance medley (Caston, Moeller, Rautanen and junior Martin Schuh).
‘‘Our main goal is to drop our times in each event,’’ said first-year FDSH head coach John McBride. ‘‘It seems like everybody always runs their best times at state, so hopefully we can do that as well.’’
Winter was the lone district champion for the Dodgers last Friday in Cedar Falls. He has the 10th-best qualifying throw in the shot put (49-05.5) and will compete on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
