First Congregational to hold block party
A back-to-school block party open to the community will be 3 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 23 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1611 Williams Drive. The church, as part of its community outreach and missions programs, wants to provide a fun evening that a family can attend at minimal cost. The cost of admission will be a nonperishable food item to be donated to the Lord’s Cupboard at the end of the event. There will be activities for children ages 3 and younger, 4 and 5, as well as games of challenge for all other ages, such as a football toss, miniature golf and a putting green. Those with pitching skills can try the dunk tank, which will feature the Rev. Jim Meadows, Dr. Janet Secor, Bobby Thompson and others. Babe Mallaro and his karaoke will also be on hand. Inside entertainment will feature magic by Larry Dunbar, music by Miguel Secor, juggling by Chuck Reetz, the Harmony Brigade chorus and the First Congregational United Church of Christ Heavenly Harmony group.
