Red Cross offers Mail for Heroes
The American Red Cross, in conjunction with Pitney Bowes Inc., will deliver holiday cards to service members, their families and veterans during the holidays in a project called Holiday Mail for Heroes, said Barbara Michaels, executive director of the Brushy Creek Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. Now through Dec. 7, the public may send a “touch of home” greeting. The Red Cross and Pitney Bowes will screen cards for hazardous materials, sort and package the cards, then deliver them to military bases and hospitals, veterans’ hospitals and other locations. Those wishing to participate may send holiday cards to Holiday Mail for Heroes, Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456, making sure there is adequate postage for that card, which must be received by Dec. 7, to get there. Cards received after that date will be returned to sender. For processing and safety, participants should not send care packages, money or use glitter or any other type of insert in the card.
