On the road again...

May 13, 2011 - Roger Feldhans
Hi, it’s me again, time to blog. This week I am making a road trip to Des Moines. I have a lot planned, not sure I will get to do everything but gonna have some fun trying. Here is how the day looks as of right now. I am taking some artwork to Finders Creepers, this is a great art gallery in Des Moines, taking some of my “creepy” stuff. Taking some “Jar Babies”, glow in the dark photography, Eyeball sculptures, and Creepy Dolls, not sure what will get in the gallery, that is for Erin to decide. I am really looking forward to this. If time allows I will be stopping by at Finders Creepers later in the evening for the FULCI Night, they will be showing horror films and are encouraging people to dress as zombies. Bring a snack to share, a beverage and a chair. They will also be filming their first commercial so it could be a great night. Will start at 7pm and goes until about Midnight.

I am going to make a stop at the Ritual Café and see Jon Baldwin’s show and take a few pictures, I really like his stuff, if you are in Des Moines and get some time stop down and see his paintings, you will not be disappointed. If time allows going to make a quick pass through the Papa John’s Sculpture Park.

I am going to make a stop at Brent Houzenga’s Ware Haus for Capitol2Capitol DSM-DC to see Brent’s installation before he takes it to ArtWhino’s G40 2011 in Washington DC. It is 16ft long and 8ft high, really looking forward to seeing it in person. Brent will be raffling off several pieces of his work and accepting donations at the door to help fund the trip, this is a very worthwhile event to support a fellow artist. The event runs from 6 to 9pm.

I am also hoping to stop at the Des Moines Art Center to see David Zollo who will be playing at the “Meet Market”. Have not been to one of these events and looking forward to it. David plays from 5 to 8pm. I will also get to see him again on Sunday at Byron’s in Pomeroy. He will be playing along with Andy Fleming, BeJae Fleming, and Lyle Kevin Hogue at 5pm for a Singer/Songwriter show. The show is at 5pm, and your $10 ticket gets you in to an awesome show, your first drink free and a chance at some of the coolest door prizes in Pomeroy, including a work of art by ME! They did this last year and it was one of the best shows I have seen at Byron’s ( and that is saying a lot), I had so much fun that I turned the photos I took into a book, very cool! Hope to see you there.

I was hoping to stop at the Science Center to see Body World Vital but does not sound like I will make it, the show closes at 3pm tomorrow, but I will make it down sometime to see it. Also might try to swing by the Botanical Center for a bit and try the new infrared, but not sure my schedule will allow it.

I have to come back home Friday night as I will have a busy Saturday also. I will be attending the “Pork Sandwich Drive Thru” at the Beacon of Hope Shelter, for a $5 donation, you get a smoked pork loin sandwich, baked beans and French fries and for $1 you can get a pop to go with it. If you don’t want it “to go” they will have picnic tables set up to eat there. This runs from 11am to 2pm, so come on down and get some lunch and donate to a very worthy organization. All proceeds go to the shelter.

At 2pm at the Blanden Memorial Art Museum there will be a talk by Nancy Girard on William King’s sculptures. This is a free event with refreshments and it is open to the public. The sculpture called "Parade," at the intersection of Fifth Avenue South and Eighth Street South, is a King sculpture. The silver sculpture depicts individuals walking, with hands linked - the essence of community spirit. This should prove to be an interesting talk. Remember that Marion Smith’s Still Life Series and Mingled Visions; Selections from Edward S. Curtis’s The North American Indian are both still on display at the Blanden and definitely worth stopping to see.

A quick stop at Permanent Collections Gallery Art to see “Visions, Artists in Training” the Fort Dodge Senior High Art Exhibit. There is some great art there and hope you get a chance to see it before it comes down only a couple weekends left to view it.

Saturday evening will contain more music as I will be stopping by the Eagles Landing to see “Vinyl”, great band and looking forward to relaxing and listening to some amazing music. Show starts at 9pm.

Yes, I do plan on sleeping a bit, but then I am up on Sunday for a photo safari and music at Byron’s ( as mentioned earlier), I will be hanging up a new tie dye backdrop for this show, not sure which one, but leaning towards the “Spirograph” inspired image…we will see.

Well, there is my art world, busy as always, hope you can get out to some art this weekend and enjoy yourself. I am attaching an infrared photo I shot recently, getting a lot of color in these and loving it opening up a whole new world to me, having a blast doing photography right now. Because art and enjoying yourself go hand in hand and that’s the way I see it, thanks for reading, Peace
