Retired educator says to vote for O’Brien

To the editor:

As a retired educator, I watched in horror as Tim Kraayenbrink and the Iowa Senate voted to gut Chapter 20. It had not been long before, at a public Eggs and Issues Forum, that Tim vowed he would not destroy Chapter 20. In his words he said if anything, he would only “tweak it a bit,” to make a few changes in insurance practices. So now, when Tim tells us he will do nothing to destroy IPERS, I wonder if he only plans to “tweak it a bit!”

Whether it is Chapter 20 or IPERS, we know that these changes have a direct effect on educators, public employees and all Iowans. Fortunately, there’s a candidate running for the Iowa Senate who knows the truth about being an educator, John O’Brien.

As an educator himself, the success of our youth has been John’s top priority his entire life. If elected this November, John will work to reinstate Chapter 20 and protect IPERS. Other priorities include improving Iowa’s mental health programs, helping to improve healthcare, and improving the quality of life for all Iowans.

I am proud to know John. I can assure you he will work relentlessly for the people of Iowa. He truly cares about your quality of life and the future of this state. Please join me on November 6th in voting for John O’Brien for Iowa Senate District 5.
