Rummage/bake sale succeeds
To the editor:
First United Methodist members accomplish so much with the semi-annual rummage/bake sale: financial support for missions, sharing with other local nonprofit organizations, and having fun as a congregation.
The ripple effect of the sale is amazing because not only do we raise money for our missions, the donated items also benefit many other people. We shared clothing, household goods, and books with eighteen other organizations, including: Almost Home, Boy Scout Troop No. 9, Baby Room at Upper Des Moines, Community Health/Shimkat Motors (coat drive), Fort Dodge Community Schools, Grace Lutheran Church (tennis shoes & stuffed animals for Houston), Operation Christmas, Share What You Wear (Iowa Central Community College), Lord’s Cupboard, Fort Dodge Public Library, D/SAOC, Iowa Retired School Personnel, PICA, Village General Store, Athletics for Education and Success, Freedom Point, Community Manna Meal and Goodwill Industries
The church rummage sale would not be a success without the support of many people including the 72 church members who helped during the sale. Thank you to: 1) The Messenger that helped promote the sale with ads, articles, the Community Calendar and “Go and Do” listing, 2) Boy Scout Troop No. 9 whose members set up the tables for the sale, 3) the many people who donated items for the rummage/bake and helped with the sale and 4) he people who support our missions by purchasing items
It was a great week with wonderful involvement of our church and the community, which made this event a success. See you in the spring (May 10-12) for our next sale.
