Wants master matrix revised

To the editor:

I was very impressed with the recent article with reference to the current hog confinement issues in Webster County.

A shout out to our local and state representatives for following through with the initiative to set forth a moratorium on the development of proposed hog confinements in Webster County. Please pay attention all because this will affect you in one way shape and form. As a community member and resident of the small community of Clare, I have spoken as loud as I can with my personal opinion with regard to the current matrix referencing the CAFO’s. Please support our county, our supervisors, our Legislative reps and ours and your communities in continuing this fight. If you think you are not understanding the makeup of the issue then put this into perspective. The majority of us have a home of some shape or form which, God willing, we have been blessed with. We all have to work hard to make our own footprint, but my home doesn’t look like my neighbor’s home. Webster County doesn’t look like any other county in Iowa. No two footprints are the same. Thus the reason to change the matrix with reference to the state having sole control. Yes the counties in Iowa who choose to do so, have adopted the matrix. The mistake from the inception was to not look at the county footprints and allowing each county to have a voice. Iowa is not just a state. Each county is as important as the next but no two counties have the same ground, same waterways, same anything. So I would hope the fight my friends, neighbors, and along with so many others, will result in a county-by-county matrix. Iowa is and always will be an agricultural-based state. But why should the state be allowed to decide if it is based on corporate greed or family farm agriculture which is how we started in the first place?
