Not my ‘goodbye’

To the editor:

This time is bittersweet as the time has come for me to complete my presidential role in the Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center board of directors. I write this letter not to highlight my accomplishments or service, but to encourage you all to continue to support an extremely important service in our community.

D/SAOC provides support to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and homicide survivors in our own community. Many of us have been impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, or homicide in some capacity whether it is directly through personal experience or through friends and loved ones, where we can all appreciate the services needed as a result. Your continued support through volunteer hours, donations (clothing, furniture, household items, etc.) and financial contributions make it possible for D/SAOC to provide such essential services to our local community; for that, I personally thank you.

Due to my growing family and responsibilities, I decided several months ago that at the end of 2016 when my term completes, it is time for my six years as a board member to wrap up and come to an end. I will continue to be passionate about this cause, be active in the agency in new ways, but this will better free me up to spend time with my wonderful new family. This is definitely not my “goodbye” to D/SAOC, but “see you soon.” Please join me in continuing to support D/SAOC in whatever capacity you are able; whether it is volunteering hours, donation of goods or funds, or attending advocacy and fundraising events that support D/SAOC.
