FDPD enhances its capabilities

New software aims to boost efficiency, improve communication

To help ensure that communications and recordkeeping capabilities are fully state-of-the-art, the Fort Dodge Police Department recently adopted new software. The goal was to make it possible for officers to do their work faster and more efficiently so they could better serve the needs of our community.

The new software, which was developed by Zuercher Technologies of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, combines the department’s record-management system and the computer-aided-dispatch system.

The new software allows seamless communication between personnel at the Webster County Sheriff’s Department and the Police Department as well as the office of the Webster County attorney. Information can also be shared quickly with other law enforcement agencies.

The ability to communicate information more fully and faster while an event requiring coordinated intervention is evolving will strengthen the ability of law enforcement agencies to respond appropriately.

The new system also makes it possible for dispatch information to be updated with no delays.

“It’s real-time information as opposed to waiting down the road and getting it five minutes later,” Fort Dodge Police Chief Roger Porter told The Messenger earlier this month.

An added benefit of the new software is that the department’s recordkeeping can now be handled with less time wasted. Updating information will be easier and faster, according to officials.

The new software makes it possible for an array of activities to be handled using a single system.

Finding ways for governmental entities to do their jobs both better and cheaper are major goals of innovative managers everywhere. The incorporation of this new software at the Fort Dodge Police Department is very much in sync with that trend.

The Messenger applauds the department’s decision to strengthen its capabilities while at the same time becoming more efficient.
