Keep Mike Sexton on the job

His influence in the Iowa House is growing

The voters in House District 10 — all of Calhoun, Pocahontas and Humboldt counties and six townships in western Webster County — have the opportunity to keep an outstanding Republican legislator on the job in the Iowa House of Representatives.

Mike Sexton, a business owner from the rural Rockwell City area, is now completing his second term in the Iowa House. His selection by his GOP colleagues to serve in a key post – assistant majority leader – illustrates the high regard in which he is held by other lawmakers. The enhanced influence that important leadership role affords Sexton increases his ability to make sure that matters important to north central Iowa are given thorough consideration. Sexton also has demonstrated the ability to work effectively across party lines. He has successfully moved legislation forward that had bipartisan support.

Sexton brings to the House a superb mix of governmental and private sector experience.

He was elected to the Iowa Senate in 1998 and served one term. He chaired the Senate Natural Resources Committee during that time. Sexton owns, along with his wife, Becky, two agriculture-related businesses: Twin Lakes Environmental Services and Real Time Ag. Sexton was named the 2013 Neal Smith Entrepreneur of the Year by the Iowa Small Business Development Center for starting Real Time Ag, a software company that makes a program to help farmers stay current with regulatory reporting.

Sexton’s success as an entrepreneur and broad knowledge of the challenges businesses face as well as his extensive expertise concerning the agricultural world make him especially well-suited to represent rural Iowa.

Additionally, Sexton puts a high priority on advancing policies that keep Iowa’s economy growing. He is committed to tax reform measures that will help keep our state an attractive venue for robust business investment. As a former school board member, he understands well that top-quality schools are crucial to generating a future workforce with the knowledge and skills that will be needed to help Iowa thrive.

The Messenger strongly support Mike Sexton’s re-election. We urge the voters in District 10 to reaffirm their wise past decision to send him to the Iowa House.
