Sweetheart Gala is Saturday

This important fundraiser deserves strong community support

The 20th annual Sweetheart Gala, a fundraising event undertaken by the Webster County component of the American Heart Association, will highlight Saturday’s social scene in Fort Dodge.

The event will be at the Best Western Village Inn & Suites, 1518 Third Ave. N.W. A social hour will commence at 6 p.m. as will a silent auction, which will continue throughout the evening. Dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m. The featured speaker for the gathering is Dr. Matt Maggio. At 7:45 p.m. a live auction will begin with Webster County Supervisor Keith Dencklau serving as auctioneer. The items being offered will appeal to a wide range of interests. Music and dancing will make the evening festive for all who participate. Dean Vinchattle will serve as DJ.

The 2017 Sweetheart Gala will include a new fundraising element called “Bubbles & Bling” that will afford the opportunity to win a diamond. To win, attendees will buy a glass of champagne for $100. At the bottom of their glass will either be a piece of cubic zirconium or a real diamond. At the end of the night, the guest will find out if the stone is real or not. If they don’t win the diamond, they will have a CZ piece and a champagne glass to keep.

The chance for a festive evening should have wide appeal. That’s an excellent reason to attend, but the gala has a very serious purpose – furthering the fight against cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death among Iowans. The money raised helps support important education and research.

“The Sweetheart Gala is a great opportunity for us to give back to the Heart Association,” event organizer Abigail Johnson told The Messenger as preparations for the gala were underway. “When it comes to heart health it almost affects everyone, and the American Heart Association works hard to reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease. It is a really fun time, celebrating a wonderful cause and you will not want to miss it.”

The Messenger strongly agrees.

Tickets can be obtained by contacting Johnson at Fort Dodge Ford Toyota (576-7505). If you can’t be present at the gala, financial donations are always welcome. This worthy undertaking deserves strong community support.
