BRADGATE — Ruth Davis, 97, Prescott Valley, AZ, formerly of Bradgate, IA passed away Dec­ember 9, 2018 at Asp­en Creek Care Home in Prescott Valley, AZ. Visitation will be held 12 p.m. Noon on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Gunderson Funeral Chapel followed by 1:30 p.m. graveside service at North Lawn Cemetery.

Ruth Opal Day, daughter of Charley and Edna (Wood) Day, was born on September 25, 1921 on a farm south of Humboldt, IA. She was raised on the farm and received her education in Humboldt County, Iowa, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1940.

She was united in marriage to Melvin Davis on November 25, 1942. Ruth and Melvin worked their farm in the Bradgate area, raising 4 children until 1957 when Melvin’s decline in health precipitated a move to Tucson, AZ. After Melvin’s health stabilized they spent their summers in Iowa and the rest of the year in Tucson. With their children raised and settled they went back to Iowa to farm until 1998. In 2004, they moved to Topeka, KS to live near their oldest daughter. Following Melvin’s death in 2005 and a stroke in 2013 Ruth moved to Prescott Valley, AZ in 2014 to be close to her youngest son, where she resided until a hip fracture and advanced age took her life. In her younger days, Ruth took great pride in her large vegetable garden and raising chickens. Ruth is survived by her children, Opal Hoferer of Topeka, KS, Claude Davis of Tucson, AZ, Eugene (Diana) Davis of Prescott Valley, AZ and Geraldine (John) Cunningham of Phoenix, AZ, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, brother Carl Day and Kandice Jenkins, great-great granddaughter.
