LAKE CITY — Gordon Dooley, 93, died Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City and the family invites friends to remain for a time of visitation following the service. A private family burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Lohrville.

Gordon Keith Dooley was born on February 19, 1925 in Lohrville, Iowa to Roland “Moses” and Neva (Hitchins) Dooley. He graduated from Lohrville High School. On June 17, 1947, Gordon married Laura Jean Benckendorf in Atchison, Kansas and together they celebrated 69 years of marriage before Jean’s death in 2016. Over the years Gordon worked building B-29 airplanes at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, driving a bread route for Pfaff Bread in Fort Dodge, working for Rosedale Dairy in Fort Dodge and finally as a farmer in the Lake City area for 38 years before retiring in 1990. After retiring, Gordon and Jean bought a home in Fort Dodge. They also enjoyed spending time during the winters in Arizona, where they made many friends, for more than 20 years.

Gordon is survived by his son Gary (Gloria) Dooley, daughter Deb (Ray) Hildreth all of Lake City, three grandchildren, five great-grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren and sister Karen (Jack) Swanson of Fort Dodge and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, parents Roland and Neva Dooley, sister Marge Miller, brother-in-law Norman Miller and grandson Dan Dooley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for Unity Point Hospice.
