ROSE CHALLGREN

DAYTON — Rose Challgren, 88, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning, October 24, 2018, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 26, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Rose Helen Johnson was born on July 11, 1930, on a farm east of Burnside, Iowa, the daughter of Nels and Vernie Johnson. She graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1948. In high school, she was on the softball team where she was known for hitting home runs and was one of the eight picked on the Dayton Girls All-Time All-Star Basketball Team. After graduation, she worked at Anderson Grocery Store in Dayton.

On May 27, 1953, Rose was united in marriage to Iver Challgren. They were happily married for over 40 years. They were blessed with three children, Charlotte Rose, Cheryl Rae, and Charles Iver. Iver and Rose lived in Dayton all of their life. Rose was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, was president of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years, and a devoted member of the Dayton Rescue Squad for close to 40 years, going on over 1000 rescue calls. She was also a volunteer at Grandview Health Care Center. Rose was devoted to her family and was a friend to many.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Greg) Toyne of Dayton; three grandsons, Ryan (Heather), Tyler, and Charlie Toyne and one great grandson, Josiah Toyne.

In addition to her loving husband Iver, Rose was also preceded in death by her daughter, Char; son Chuck; her parents; brother, Harold; and her sister, Lowella.
