Helen K. Nibel, 93, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the Simpson Health Center of Friendship Haven.
A service honoring Helen’s life will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 26, at the Tompkins Celebration Center at Friendship Haven with the Rev. Dan Kahl officiating. Interment will be in the Paton Township Cemetery at Paton. Visitation is 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Tompkins Celebration Center. Memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Fund at Friendship Haven. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Roger) Schulz, Poulsbo, Wash.; Virginia (Kent) Raddatz, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; Kathy (Steve) Hulsebus, Fort Dodge; and Robbie (David) Baker, Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Edna Hawk, Des Moines; Mary (Don) Milefchik, Anaheim, Calif.; Claudette (Dan) Logan, Powell, Wyoming; and Shirley (Myles) Pederson, Laurens. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert.
Helen Kathryn Wilson, the daughter of Claude W. and Rena (Aden) Wilson, was born at Palmer on July 24, 1925. She graduated from Havelock High School in 1942. On July 30, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to Robert Nibel. After living a few years in the Havelock area, they moved to Paton where they farmed for many years before moving to Fort Dodge in 2007.
Helen was passionate about farming the land with her husband, Bob, and was proud to accept the Century Farm award. She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, sewing, sledding, quilting, playing Cribbage and telling stories. She read her devotional and her Bible every day. She loved the color purple. Helen also loved to bake. Many fondly recall the times she shared her famous gooey rolls.
