HAROLD LAVERN CUMMINS

Harold Lavern Cummins, 83, passed away Fri­day, Sep­tem­ber 14, 2018 at his home in Fort Dodge.

Harold was born June 7, 1935 to Ivyl and Goldie (Jones) Cummins in the family home near Redfield, IA. He graduated from Lehigh High School in 1953. He met Betty Lennon on the dance floor; it was a joy to watch them dance. They married June 9, 1956 and raised 7 children in Lehigh.

Harold worked for 33 years with Hormel Foods; 9 with Central Webster School and 4 at the Dayton Golf Club. He was a member of the Central Webster School Board, Lion’s Club, Foxhunter’s Association, Lehigh Valley Saddle Club, Eagles Club Trustee, The Loft Board (HSB) and a Boy Scout leader. He loved bowling, hunting, horseback riding, playing ball and golf.

He moved to Horseshoe Bend, ARK in 2001 where he made many friends and enjoyed year-round golf; until the end he was a passionate karaoke master with a great country yodel. He returned to Fort Dodge in July 2017.

Harold is survived by his children: Rebecca (Misha Neininger) Cummins of Seattle, WA, Ron (Michelle) Cummins of Webster City, Bren Dahlstrom of Dayton, Rodney Cummins of Lehigh, Deborah (James) Casey of Rockwell City, Deanne Cummins of Fort Dodge, and Rusty (Wendy) Cummins of Madison, WI; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and sister, Vicky (Don “Tiny”) Rockafellow of Fort Dodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; siblings, Virginia Post, Wilbur Cummins and Lovell Cummins.

A visitation will be held from 3-6:00 pm Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with a Prayer Service and Time of Sharing beginning at 6:00 pm. A graveside service will be at 10:30am Monday, September 24, 2018, West Lawn Cemetery, Lehigh.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
